A family-run Italian on Elm Street, since Giacomo lit the first candle in 1980.
Hidden among the romantic street lights of Elm Street, just off the rush of Yonge and Dundas — an intimate downtown room, a rooftop terrace, fresh pasta, and a wine list built for long evenings.
The address hasn't changed. The family hasn't either. What began as a small dining room in 1980 has grown into one of downtown Toronto's quiet Italian institutions — the kind of place regulars measure their years by.
In August 1980, Giacomo first opened his dining establishment in Yorkville as “Cafe 2000.” Ten years later, in 1990, he moved his family's restaurant to 37 Elm Street and gave it the name it still carries — Donatello.
Hidden among the romantic street lights of Elm, a short step from the noise of Yonge and Dundas, the room is intimate, the pasta is fresh, and the pace is unhurried on purpose. On warm nights the tables spill onto the front terrace and up onto the rooftop patio, where regulars stay longer than they mean to.
A family-run establishment with an intense focus on providing a high quality fine dining experience. — From the Donatello family, 37 Elm St

On warm summer nights the room extends up. A narrow staircase, a front terrace, and a romantic rooftop patio — the pace slows down, the candles come on, the wine list opens further.
